Well here is a quick recap of what I can remember...
January - Missy completed the Goofy Challenge at Walt Disney world and we started the year camping in freezing temps in Florida. When we returned to Austin I was certified as a lifeguard instructor in preparation for teaching classes in 2010.
February - kicked off the Mountain Bike racing season with the Dirty Dozen in Warda. I worked medical support for the first half of the race and then joined my team to ride the second half of the 12 hour race. The course was extremely muddy and it turned out to be my first experience riding a mountain bike in that much mud and at night! Thank you to Elizabeth for loaning me the bike and lights for the second lap!
March - rolled in with kayak lessons, SUPing, Eco Lonestar, Champions Tri and the Colorado River Ramble.
April - added additional SUPing, kayaking, medical support for the ultimate Frisbee High School tournament and training for TWS and getting ready for the River Marathon.
May - completed the River Marathon, visited Costa Rica, went on my first SSES retreat at the Laiti lodge on the Frio river and I completed my first Sprint Distance Tri at the Capital of Texas Tri in Downtown Austin.
June - We supported another Great Castel Kayak race, provided lifeguarding support for the Danskin, taught a Lifeguarding course, medical support for Terra Firma Huntsville race, helped with the First annual SUP ISD race at Camacho center, won first place solo at Adventure Race Girl challenge race in Bastrop, and enjoyed a full moon SUP paddle with friends!
July - Expedition camp, Tx Rollergirls medical support, Red Licorice open water swim, and more kayak lessons.
August - Ring of Fire, Xterra Camp Eagle, Sweet and Twisted Tri, Kayak trip with San Juan Diego HS, Tx Rollergirls Rec league med support, and of course more SUPing!
September - Colin's Hope, CR100, NOC paddling trip, Wilderness First Aid, Another San Juan Diego trip, SSES Freshmen Retreat on Frio River, Rocky Hill adventure race and TSD Ranger tri!
October - Ultimate Frisbee tourney, KAB lake clean up, started EMT course, 24 hours of Rocky Hill, Mountain bike trip with San Juan Diego, and Martindale tri!
November - EMT Class, Dirty Du, Thanksgiving trip to Garner State Park and Lost Maples state park.
December - Lifeguard course, Jingle bell run, Decker Challenge, trip home to California to see family for Christmas.
Whew! What a whirlwind of a year. I am so very thankful to Kimery and all of the friends, students and colleagues at The Expedition school for an amazing 2010! As I look back on the year I realize how very far we have come and how much we can accomplish if we just put our hearts, minds and souls into what we do. Throughout the year we were able to introduce SUP to over 3000 people, we took hundreds of High School students into the outdoors and we truly made a positive impact on our community! I am looking forward to a productive and amazing 2011!
